A pilot investigation by women based or born in Jersey, exploring the relation between art and self, gender, site, economic and social history, context and constraint.
ArtHouse Jersey invited a dozen female artist-makers with a Jersey connection, of all disciplines, to come together for a long weekend session at Chateau Vermont to get to know one another, and reflect upon what it means to be women who create/make Art, and ask questions about the island and how the female perspective on living here (currently or formerly) is unique.
The residency, facilitated by Forced Entertainment's Terry O'Connor, initially acted as a time to share, research and consider areas of mutual interest around the theme. We then invited the group to think about whether there is scope to collectively and collaboratively develop a new piece or body of work around it. At the culmination of the residency there is opportunity to reflect upon what has been explored and whether any ideas could be taken further at a future time.
